  Hologram floating head “with and without”using proper Effects.

  I’m working on an interesting and challenging project right now.
  It’s a mini-short (15”) in stop-motion.

  The ending will be a “holographic” head coming out of a wooden box. The thing is that I won’t be able to use Vfx.
  What do you think about it? I’d like to ask to all of you “how would you do it”?

  I will have most of the “effects” panel off-limits. With the basic potential of AE, what could be a good-looking way to create a holo effect of a greenback filmed head? (I’ll of course be able to key out the green)

  I’d also like to hear how would you do it WITH effects, of course. But without plugins.. My initial idea is to actually mask horizontally the head in twelve parts at minimum, than create some “offset” of those parts to crete a “television” fx, then manually create little glows and animations of those masks turning off/on randomly.

  Aharon Rabinowitz created a basic Hologram look in this tutorial, you might find it interesting.

  You could Luma Matte your person with a solid which has the Bad TV preset(s) on it. You find them in Animation Presets/Image – Special effects.

  Just a part of the “exercise”, but in the end I think I can use them if they’re NOT plugins. 😉
