  Removing loud crowd noise, what is the best way to do this, What software ?

  Removing loud crowd noise, what is the best software ?

  I am in making movies about sick children in hospitals, there is loud ‘ crowd noise’ in the back ground ( a child whining, people talking), I need to some how remove this so I can hear the important sound ( harsh breathing of child with tetanus), is there any way to do this?

  I have heard of software like audacity and wavepad and heard they are not good, I have heard of Audition by Adobe, but want to be certain it is the best choice before I buy the suite.

  Any ideas?

  Before you buy, try the trial version and see if it works for you.

  Another Professional software to try would be Sony Sound Forge. It has a trial version also.

  Almost any quality audio software gives you the ability to sample the “noise floor”, which is what the background noise is, as opposed to the audio you’re trying to make stand out. Once you sample the noise floor, you subtract that from the main audio, be it a person speaking, or whatever.

  I used to use SoundForge, and it had a very easy way to sample and subtract background noise. I’d be amazed if Audition didn’t have it, but I haven’t used the feature yet. As I said, most pro audio apps have the capability.
