Any method to Preview AE project files?
Hi all, Apart from a jpeg, Is there a method where one good
preview AE project files without having to open them? This
would save a lot of time when having a lot of project files and wanting to scan through each to choose the best one for a project.

Adobe Bridge can view AET (AE Template) files but I’m not sure if there is any literature on how to create an AET.
I Your best bet is to batch render the AEPs/comps using Media Encoder. Then rely on the rendered movies to ascertain their worth in a new project.

Good idea, Roland! Another Bridge oriented thought is to use the description field in the metadata to tell yourself what’s in there. I don’t do this with all of my AE projects, just ones which are critical to the final outcome that I might need to revisit. I also mark them with labels in Bridge, such as “Approved”.

This isn’t an easy problem to solve. AEPs can contain multiple comps. How would the system know which one to preview?
My project files are all organized via numbered project codes, textual element descriptions, and numbered versions. I can look through my renders and instantly identify the AEP that it came from.

Good plan, Walter. Of course, there’s also the choice to “link to project” when you save the AE project, which gives you the option to open the original AE project right from the output footage. It has saved my bacon several times, when I couldn’t remember which of the 12 versions (all careful marked in numerical progression) was the actual “final final”.
