Activity Forums Adobe After Effects tracking for camera data

  • tracking for camera data

i heard someone on the forum say that he filmed two dots on a cardboard with a camera. he gave his camera a shake. after capturing it, he tracked the data of the camera movement to camera movement in after effects 3d camera. does anyone know how to do this.

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Very simple. Open your tracker controls and do a 2 point track. Use this data on a null layer. Parent your footage to the null layer and it will ride along. You will want to scale up your footage a touch as you will surely see the edges when it takes on the motion.

However, I have had very good luck simply using Motion Sketch recording at 50% speed then jiggling my mouse then using these keyframes on a null (which the clip is parented to). Remember to turn on Motion Blur for the full effect. You would be extremely hard pressed in shots that aren’t too wide of a lens which is a track and which is motion sketch. Obviously wide lens distortion in a very wide shot would give away that it is a 2D move.

For more info on Motion Sketch or the Tracker controls, check your help files or of course your AE manual.
