Upgrade Cameras for Stage Events
Hi everyone. I use two Sony Z1U cameras with 2 MRC1K recorders to shoot shows. I find that I have a ton of grain in my shooting mainly because I shoot a lot of dance shows and the shows tend to go for shadows and abstract lighting rather than just a simply stage lighting set up. I was hoping for some suggestions that would work with my MRC1K. I’ve looked into the Z5U and Z7U, and I’m very interested in them, but I’d love to know if anyone thinks that I’d have too much rolling shutter problems. I do have to pan fairly quickly to follow the dancers, but not super fast either.

Hi Nick,
These days, you may be better off looking at SDI for recording, Firewire is now a thing of the past. In the end it all depends on your budget.

It won’t pull miracles in low light, but it will be clean without gain and no rolling shutter issues You could certainly record in the camera itself on SD cards and I would always recommend that as a backup.

And off course the KiPro Mini or PIX recorders for the good and expensive stuff.
