I have some material shot in 24p that I need to convert to 1080i60 for a broadcast delivery. My broadcaster requires in it’s technical sheet that the pulldown be done in the AABBBCCDDD pattern, and I’m trying to know which of the pulldown option in AFX fits this pattern.

Basically I bring in the footage into AFX, create comp automatically, send to render cue, and do the 3:2 pulldown in the render setting dialogue. select upper field first (for HD) which activates the pulldown menu. Am I right in assuming the SSWWW equates the AABBB pattern I need or is there something I’m not understanding about what those choices mean?

    thanks for the help.

To find the correct pulldown you’ll need to think of the frames (ABCD) as pairs of fields.

For example, AABBBCCDDD translates to these pairs:

    AA – BB – BC – CD – DD

Which in AE’s syntax for pulldown translates to:

    W – W – S – S – W or: WWSSW

The ‘W’ means “Whole” and the ‘S’ means “Split” frame. That is that in an ‘S’ frame the field pair is from two different frames where as in a ‘W’ frame both fields originated from the same frame.
