Tapless workflow for live events
Hello all,
Every live event I produce/run, I look to refining the process of getting our show records to our on site editor as fast as possible and finished edited video (in our case a “candids” video that showcases the entire week, played on Awards Night. We have used tape in the past, and now a mix of tape and KiPro. DVCpro tapes that can record 2 hrs are only for SD. We now want to produce all in HD. Using an HD record deck, the tape ends an hr or so into the show and our Video Tech has to quickly swap tapes, that is if he gets there on time. The KiPro records (2, one for backup record) are wonderful. Next show we are going to get Mac based AVid rental and another Kipro for our Editor. the biggest problem is trying to archive the 1-2 hr Prores files to a USB drive or network storage drive. way too slow.
AJA is soon to release a Kipro hard drive adapter that is USB 3 compatible. That should make archive/backup transfers much faster.
Does anyone currently use a similar workflow? are you using ESATA cables/connections to your backup laptops?
I’m open to any suggestions. we need to have at least 2 backups to bring back on carry on without the bulk (in the “old days” our team would have to split up a stack of DVCpro tapes to carry on.
Thanks in advance
