HD multicam guidance

(Newbie to Creative COW)
I am working on a set up for the college I work at and trying to develop an affordable and functional system for doing 3-4 camera set up for live events.Currently we have 2 JVC GY-HM100U’s & a Sony XD cam – and will be purchasing a JVC 700 or 750. What I’m hoping to accomplish is a 3-4 camera system that isn’t too space consuming that we can use to broadcast events.
What would be a good switcher that either supports HD-SDI?
With HD based systems is sync/black burst a necessity? – We are just beginning to step into the HD world and I know the HM-100s don’t allow for a sync… will that be an issue?
Is there anything that makes configuring a system easier/does anyone have any good information on simple systems like this?

The Panasonic HMX100 switcher/mixer is a great HD switcher and it has (4) SDI inputs. We’ve had one since they first started shipping and the quality is great. We’ve run into some minor issues in SD, but for HD no problems.

I have had a lot of success with them. The built in multi view generator and dvi input is super helpful.

Anyone here facing delays issues with the PGM output??
I seemed to have a delay of about 5 to 7 frames which is totally unacceptable for IMAG productions. -
I think one time we calculated the delay at around half of what you are experiencing. I would double check that you don’t accidentally have some extra effects activated. Other than that, try the different outputs, or maybe get in touch with Panny service and see if they have any ideas?
