Is it possible to print to tape from AE?
Might sound like a dumb question but going from AE to FCP even with animation codec I get terrible image quality. I have read an article here suggesting to use the anim codec but is there a better way?
Is it possible to go direct from AE to mini dv where I need to end up?

    Assistance greatly appreciated,
    Alan

No, it is not possible. You need an editing app or similar utility. AE does not capture from or print to tape.

The animation codec is the best codec for preserving image quality. Perhaps “best quality” playback is not enabled in FCP?

Then again, whenever you go to DV – no matter whether it’s through AE, or FCP – you’ll get severe chroma subsampling. Color pixellation.

So depending on your source material, recording to DV is always going to be a bit dissapointing. It’s usually not so bad for video/photographic images, but graphics tend to come out terrible on DV.

Another way is to export out of AE to .tif or .tga sequences and import those in. Works great for me.
