May 25, 2012 at 1:58 pmSPACEMAN needs to learn to ask questions in a concise and clear way, so that people in a position to help are not put off by SPACEMAN’s cryptic jargon.

May 25, 2012 at 4:52 pmHi Dave! 🙂
SPACEMAN got over-excited.[AFX needs to import a file from an ingest system.
These files require the IMX50 codec. SPACEMAN uses a PC and can’t find relevant information on installing IMX50 or any alternate codecs.]Q1. Does IMX50 work on PC?
Q2. If not, are there alternatives?thanks

May 25, 2012 at 5:13 pmSPACEMAN –
Here’s what I could find on the codec – it appears to be available for the PC (not free, however), and it’s a Quicktime variation:

Can the footage from the ingest system be provided in a different codec? Some info on your output codec and aspect ratio would be helpful.

May 25, 2012 at 5:17 pmOne other thought, SPACEMAN…the codec appears to be for broadcast streaming, so it’s probably not the highest quality you’re going to find – if you have to take it into AE, and then output it, you may end up with something less than great looking.
I would ask the supplier of the clips whether they can give you something better (uncompressed Quicktime, or even frames (.png, .tga). You’ll end up with a better final product.

May 25, 2012 at 5:49 pmFile-based IMX50 is MXF-wrapped MPEG-2. (It’s also standard-definition — ewww…)
I think AE should read it natively.
I did a quick test, using Adobe Media Encoder to create an MXF OP1a file with the IMX50 preset. It read perfectly into AE. It might be worth testing with your ingest system, but it really ought to just work.

May 25, 2012 at 6:09 pmFOLLOW-UP:
Apparently the MXF wrapper conatins an uncompressed QT [.mov}
and SPACEMAN does require the codec suggested by Joe Bourke.SPACEMAN attempted to send sample file through Encore,
with no success. [dialog claims invalid file on import]
This route will be attempted with other
footage on Monday. Should any interesting results occur,
SPACEMAN will post them. Thanks again for you time.
