Mastering to DVCPro Codec
Hello everyone!
I’m working on a project that was meant to be shown for web, and later got switched to broadcast.
We shot everything with a RED EPIC, and worked on a 1080p23.976 comp in PP then later Color Corrected in AE in the same type comp.
So I’m having to export our comps to their broadcast requirements.
Here are their requirements.
HD FORMAT:
File type: Quicktime [.mov]
Codec: DVCPro HD at 1080i
Field dominance: Upper [odd]
Frame Rate: 29.97
Audio: Stereo Mix Ch1 and Ch2 at 48KHz at either 16 or 24 bit
Audio Reference: -12dBSD FORMAT:
Filetype: Quicktime [.mov]
Codec: DV50 NTSC or Apple ProRes 4:2:2
Field dominance: Lower [even]
Frame Rate: 29.97
Audio: Stereo Mix Ch1 and Ch2 at 48KHz at either 16 or 24 bit
Audio Reference: -12dBAlso I’m working on a PC.
What would you recommend I go about rendering these out.. render out a lossless and render the lossless in QT with their DVCPro settings?
Or Render straight out of AE with a DVCPro HD 60i setting which really gives me 29.97fps.
Or should I import the AE comp to Media Encoder and go about their DVCpro settings?
In all of those settings that i’ve mentioned, I don’t get the option to choose upper or lower fields.
Is there a better way of going about this? Do i need to worry about aspect ratio correction? Or would they automatically do that on their side?

If the DVCPRO file is your only deliverable, you can output it directly from After Effects. If you are delivering more than one kind of file, consider using an intermediate export.
You must enable field rendering in the Render Settings of an item in the render queue.
All DVCPRO is thin-raster (anamorphic), so you should expect them to correctly handle its PAR.
