  Is it possible to make a customizable mix-and-match menu in Encore?

  A client asked me this morning if we could make a DVD menu where the user can select some videos to play concurrently but not others. They have an exercise video where users can watch warm up, 5 minute workout, then cool down all in a row but skip the 10 minute and 15 minute exercises in the middle if they desire. Is this possible in Encore or do I need something more robust?

  If all sections you want to play (or not play) are individual video timelines OR if they have chapter markers then you can accomplish this by use of playlists. Create a playlist that shows only the 3 sections you want and link a menu button to that playlist.

  Unfortunately it’s not that simple. The client is requesting that the user be able to select any number of videos, in any order, and be able to watch them from start to finish. For example: They select videos 1, 2, 9 and 5. Then they select PLAY and watch their selections as they play in the order selected.
  They showed me a Biggest Loser workout DVD that has this style menu and I have simply never seen anything else like it!

  I believe this is possible in Apple DVD Studio Pro using scripting. I believe this is advanced. Perhaps this link can explain so you can see if it is what you desire. I do not believe Encore does this.

  DVDSP and Scenarist both have the programming support to handle a task such as this. We would use Scenarist, as it’s easier to finesse the fine details of a complicated process in a spec-level authoring app.

  Yeah…..you’ll need a tool which supports scripts.
