  • Making a Blu Ray and a DVD from the same files

Hi all. Hope someone can help me here.

I made an HD edit in Avid MC6 and then imported it into encore ok. I created the menus etc etc and then made a blu ray absolutely fine from that.

Then I wanted to make a DVD of the same file (which is interlaced)
I merely changed the project and output type to DVD iso, and selected “automatic” in the DVD compression window (thinking it would make a ISO file that would be optimised to the dvd size disc with the other assets that needed to go in like ac3 etc etc. But the iso was TOO BIG to go to DVD disc in the end.

Can anyone explain to me what I should have done. The source file is a quicktime.

To make it work, i took the qt ref from avid into sorenson sq, made a mpeg2 dvd file that was suitably sized, and then set encore to “do not transcode” and burned that way, but this seemed liek an added stage, and i had to recreate my menus etc etc.

    Thoughts appreciated

    Peter

Look at the size of the streams for your Blu-Ray. You need to optimize the streams for DVD. Probably why your ISO is huge. I would suggest reexporting your video to M2V and A3C streams.
