HD on DVD? How Do The Big Guys Do it.
I am just getting into the world of HD. Up to this point every project I have done has been SD. I am gathering from reading that HD footage has to be burned to a Blue-ray and you can’t have it on regular DVD.
If this is correct then how do the major motion pictures record in HD but are able to put their films out on standard DVD’s? Could anyone help me understand this Please??? I am confused. -

You can burn HD video (a disc image) on a DVD. It will only playback on a Blu-ray player and you are limited to about 40 min. max of video – but this depends on your HD bitrate. Other than cost of disc, I don’t see a huge benefit to this except for cheap approval of short videos. Hopefully someone can tell you much more info.

Allow me to rephrase my question to clarify as I am still confused.
New cameras are mostly HD. People are still making a living recording weddings, events, ect…with these cameras.
With that said I find it hard to believe they are
A. Recording everything in SD with these new cameras so that it can be put onto DVD.
B. They are putting everything HD onto Blue-ray since DVD is still the staple for home video.So how are people filming in HD but burning to DVD for a playable disk in a DVD Player.

it´s really simple to film in HD and create a SD-DVD from this HD-source.so you have both possibilities to create Blu-ray and DVD from the same source.
all encoders can transcoders SD-MPEG2 out of HD-content – it´s really simple.

By the way – it isn’t “filming” – sorry but that is a pet peeve of mine … it is video.
And yes, Danny is correct, Adobe easily converts HD Video to SD – I thought you wanted to keep HD on a DVD.
