  Total newbie masking question

  Brand new to AE6.

  I have a stroke animating the way I want from an open mask vector path on a solid color layer. Now how do I drop out that background color so the stroke animates on top of all my lower layers with a nice clean composite? I’ve played around with the blending modes and multiply comes the closest, but not really what I want. Is this a keying problem? I’m hoping this is an easy thing and I’m just looking for a nudge in the right direction is all.

  Look in the effect settings for the stroke effect.
