Encore Bluray settings
I was told that you can fit 2 hours of full HD (1920×1080) on a 25GB bluray disk at its full res of 35Mbps. When I try to input these settings into Adobe Encore with a video of 1 hour and 58 minutes, it says that it will need 33.9 GB for those settings and won’t burn it. When I tried (just out of curiosity) to set the transcode setting to automatic, it said there is now 10.5 GB of FREE SPACE. I’m afraid that the automatic setting is reducing the quality a lot so I didn’t burn yet.
What are the best settings to get the most out of the HD quality and use as much of the 25GB as possible? And why am I not able to choose 35Mbps as target for 1:58 hours on a 25GB disk?

Do not set the target bitrate above 20 Mbps. You can set the max up to 22 Mbps. I am assuming you are using h.264 codec if you want the best quality.
Those bitrate settings will yield excellent results. Anything higher, and you risk having serious playback problems on Blu-ray players as they are unable to sustain high bitrates read from burned media.
Pressed media (replicated) can be read as high as 45 Mbps.

Thanks. Can you give me good values for minimum as well? I use VBR so target will be 20, max 22… what should the minimum be? Thanks.

6 – 8 is what I use for DV PAL (720×576) I’m talking here 1920×1080 Full HD.

I understand that, and I am talking MINIMUM. The target is the most important setting. For Standard definition I usually use a minimum of 1000 to 1500 kbps.
