  Encore CS4 crashes while burning Blu-Ray Disc

  Lately I keep running into a problem where Encore crashes about 4 hours into burning a Blu-Ray disc. I believe it is somehow related to a communication error with my Blu-Ray drive. After each time it crashes the Blu-Ray disc appears blank in my finder, but if I try to reuse the disc in Encore it claims that I need to insert a blank disc.

  Here’s what I’m operating on:

  Mac Pro
  OS X 10.5.7
  2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  6 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

  Encore CS4 (all current updates installed)

  LaCaie d2 Blu-Ray

  I have been able to burn multiple BDs in the past few months and have run into this problem within the past week. Also I have been able to use Encore to burn SD discs with my internal Optiarc drive, but not with the external LaCie d2.

  Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, deadlines to meet and clients to keep happy.

  This problem has been documented for a long time. I thought maybe Adobe had addressed it by now, but maybe not? It happens on the Mac OS only, and happens with long BD projects only. The solution is to create an image file, then burn using Toast.

  We are now giving away BluStreak Burner, an alternative to burning Blu-ray with Toast. This application burns playable Blu-ray recordables from build folders and disc images, and is a subset of BluStreak Premaster, our replication program.

  Just go to the home page, click on BluStreak Burner, and download the .zip file at the bottom of the page.

  Ah yes, of course.

  BluStreak will give you more options to customize the image/folder than Toast will.

  Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated. I am working on creating disc images now. I appreciate your timely response to my Encore Problem. I’ll keep you updated with my success in this work around.
