Color space for Canon DSLR
I know this issue was spoken a lot, but still there are some undefined points for me.
The following article says that Canon DSLRs use BT.601 standard but have BT.709 color coefficients: https://colorbyjorg.wordpress.com/2011/01/14/canon-dslr-video-uses-bt-601-sd-matrix-instead-of-bt-709-hd/
Seems weird according a test I made: I took a JPG and then a video of the same scene. The video was interpreted using FFMPEG twice: 1st run – full luma range 601 matrix; Second run – full luma range 709 matrix. The first run shared same colors with the JPG. The second run is more saturated in the reds, and the greens are shifted.
Can anybody share an opinion regarding this?In After Effects (CS5) I interpret the Canon DSLR footage as SDTV NTSC (to reach BT.601). Is it correct?
Thanks,
Mark.
