    Hi;

    My co-worker and I recently did a shootout between DVDSP and Encore to compare the qualities of the encodings. In the end, DVDSP had a much “brighter” output with less artifacting. Encore just muddied the output too much. Is there a “pro” version of MainConcept out there? I wasn’t sure if that was even an option.

    Thanks;
    J.

    If there is, I don’t know anyone that uses it. Most of us who require the highest quality transcoding don’t use adobe products (Main Concept Encoder) at all, and instead use Cinema Craft Encoder, Procoder, or TMPGEnc.

    Thanks Jon. These are all PC apps. Any comparable mac apps out there?

    Compressor. MainConcept also makes a standalone encoder for Windows and Mac.

    But I would ask – did you use any custom presets in Encore? If you did, do you know the fundamentals of MPEG-2 encoding for DVD?
