Chapter playlists
I’m new to Encore and I need a couple of questions answered. I have a 2 hour performance I have imported to Encore. I created a time line and a “play all” button in the Start menu. That works just fine. I also created a Chapter playlist and linked the chapter buttons to each chapter. What is not happening is after playing the chapter it does not go back to the main menu so that the viewer can choose a new chapter to watch, even although I set end links for each chapter in the Chapter playlist window.
The other question relates to transcoding, this project was edited on a Mac in FCP. It is DVCPro HD 720p 29.97 footage. I exported the final project to Compressor and created a .m2v file. I selected the BluRay transport option and proceeded to compress the footage. Six hours later I took the finished .m2v file, moved it over to the PC where I have Encore installed, imported the video asset created a timeline and now Encore tells me that the video needs to be transcoded again. The “Do not Transcode” option is not available to me. What did I do wrong in Compressor that Encore did not recognize the mpeg file as BluRay acceptable.

For your first question, do you have any overrides in the project?
For your second, as I recall, MPEG-2 Transport Streams are not Blu-ray legal. And Encore prefers elementary streams.

No overrides that I am aware of (I did not create any), and in compressor I selected the BluRay transport option.

Do you have a unique chapter playlist for each chapter, with the end action on the chapter playlist? You need to do that, if you did not.
As far as I know, transport streams are not Blu-ray legal. Export elementary streams.

For what it is worth, I’ve been encoding with Compressor for almost a year now selecting transport Stream: Blu-Ray and I get the do not Transcode option on the Mac Pro. Encore does not try to re-transcode the M2V files when I build the disc image.
I’ve never tried the elementary stream option but will try that as a test next time.

I thought that generally a transport stream had a video as well as audio stream? If the stream is video-only, I wouldn’t expect Encore to try to re-encode it as long as the frame size, frame rate, and bit rate are Blu-ray legal.
I think that’s key to why Encore might be trying to re-encode the transport stream – it’s trying to transcode the audio within the transport stream.

Joe thanks for the info on the chapter playlists. All is working now. However still have to solve the transcoding problem for the next time.

Warren has used Compressor successfully with Encore in Blu-ray. Warren, can you share some more information on this?

I’ve based my compressor droplet off the Apple preset HD-DVD setting. I changed the transport stream to Blu-Ray and then I spent 3 months experimenting with the min/max settings to get the best compression/picture quality ratio.
