  • Imported Photoshop menu shrinks in CS3

Posted by Kurt Raihn on January 9, 2009 at 11:09 pm

I am using Premiere CS3, Encore CS3, and Photoshop 7.

Here is my problem. When I import a Photoshop menu into Encore CS3 it shrinks in size (i.e. pixel aspect ratio). My project settings in Encore are for DV (720×480), my exported premiere files are 720×480. My Photoshop file is 720×480. When I select them in Encore it shows that the video and menu files are 720×480. However, the menu does not line up with the background video I have created. If I overlay the Photoshop menu in Premiere with the background video it looks fine. But when I import the menu in Encore it shrinks.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

IIRC, PS7 doesn’t support non-square pixels. Make your PS menus 720×534.

Thanks Jeff I will give it a try. Guess I need to upgrade my Photoshop too.

Okay, so I made a menu in PS7 at 720×534 and imported it. It was still too small (i.e. vertical position not correct). Next I made a menu in PS7 at 720×576 and imported it. The vertical position looks good but the text appears narrow.

    I think I need PS CS3.

You need to make a new document/canvas that’s 720×534. If you merely resize the old one, then distortions will occur and things won’t line up.

I created a new document in PS7 at 720×534. When I import it into CS3 it still doesn’t line up with my video background. I must be doing something wrong.

Let’s go the other way. Try creating a new document at 648×480. Sometimes this size document will scale better than 720×534.

Thanks Jeff you’re a genius. 640×480 works like a charm.

I appreciate all your help on this.
