We’ve recently switched our DVD workflow from DVD Studio Pro to Encore CS3,
    and it’s not going well.

Projects with Play All buttons seem to preview and transcode OK, but refuse
to burn with this kind of message:

PGC “01_IntroFilm_V1” has an error at 00:00:45:19
    internal software error: %0, line 01_IntroFilm_V1 -PGC Info: name = 01_IntroFilm_V1, ref = Dpgc, time = 00:00:45:19

Not sure what to do with an internal software error, unless I’m
it’s open source and I’m supposed to repair things myself.

Any other noobie pleasures to look out for?

    Darren.

Typically this error occurs if you have moved, edited or replaced assets outside of Encore and saved them with the same name that Encore recognized before you made the move/edit/replacement.

That is a big no-no in the Encore world. Instead, use the tools provided in Encore: Edit Original and Replace Asset.

NB: It is not enough just to do the bad behaviors; there must be certain system hardware components at play as well. Adobe hasn’t found the answer, and neither have the forum regulars over at the Adobe User-to-User forum.

Regardless, if you handle your assets properly, the potential hardware issues shouldn’t be a factor and you should be able to avoid the error. However, at this point, I can’t say that is true in each and every case.

Since my post I’ve had a squizz at the Adobe Forums and it seems
that Encore 3 is a mess for a lot of users. Why Adobe keep
churning out CS after CS as quickly as possible when there’s
a trail of tears behind each release is a mystery to me. It
doesn’t do a lot to discourage piracy either: why should anybody
be expected to pay $1000/£1000 for a box of bugs, whose faults
could potentially cost a company 10s of thousands of pounds/dollars
    in lost revenue?

Am I right in thinking that nobody’s ever sued (successfully sued?)
a creative software company for loss of earnings due to a big
    crash?

    Darren.

You make me sorry I wasted my time replying to you. I thought (apparently mistakenly) that you wanted help.
