Encore menu problem
Ok, I’m having issues with the picture quality of a menu I’m working on. I’m using encore 1.5.1 and photoshop 7 (I know, I’m a bit behind the times) and the menu looks good. It looks good in photoshop as a PSD, it looks good in Encore preview mode, it looks good rendered into a folder on my hard drive and played on any number of dvd playing software.
I then add video to the buttons and all still looks good, UNTIL I ANIMATE BUTTONS. From then on, everything in the menu looks like complete pixelated crap (except the video in the animated buttons, ironically) either in preview mode in Encore, played from a file on my hard drive by any of the aforementioned software, or from a burned dvd played on my computer or my set-top player.
So to sum up: non-animated buttons = looks great everywhere. animated buttons = looks great nowhere.
I’ve seen quite a few other questions posted that seem to be the same problem, but the only answer I could find recommended using lower saturation colors. For the record, my colors, at their current saturation, look fine…
UNTIL I ANIMATE BUTTONS!!!
Very frustrating…..

Plenty of problems here too on the Mac version with buttons and highlights. Look great in preview mode but always off by the about the point size of the font when burned to disc.

I’m not sure what you mean by “off”…
I was having trouble with text moving from where it should be. I would position it in photoshop, but when I imported it into encore it would move.
If that is what you are referring to, I fixed the problem by rasterizing all fonts before importing into encore.

I mean I create the word “PLAY” and tell it to highlight yellow when selected and highlight red when activated. I render the motion menu. It looks great and works the word “Play” is highlighted correctly.
I build the image and burn to a BD-RE with Toast 8 & 9. Play it in a set top box. The menu appears, select the “PLAY” and low and behold the word “PLAY” is repeated in yellow, about the distance of the font size below the word “PLAY” I created in Encore.
It would look something like this:
PLAY
PLAY
as apposed to:
PLAY
Where the bold “Play” is highlighted text.
I hope this make some sense.

Your static menu doesn’t require rendering, but your animated menu does. So the problem manifests itself once Encore flattens your still image menu and converts it to a video clip.
I would investigate possible PAR issues and/or possible interlacing or cropping issues.

Not a static menu. I have to render because it is a motion menu.
