I’m preparing a dvd and my button highlights look awful. The buttons are simple texts – white font, that looks fine but once highlighted (the highlight color is red) it looks very bad. It’s like the white is “leaking” through the red on the borders. So the font looks red in the middle and white on the edges. Still I put the highlights as 100 percent opacity. I’ve tried everything. Rasterizing the text in photoshop, anti-alias as strong, crisp, smooth… nothing works! Can anyone please give me an idea of what I’m doing wrong.

    Best regards.

Solid red highlights rarely look good, especially over pure white text.

Adding to the problem is that subpicture highlights can’t be anti-aliased. You can experiment with stroked text in PS and multiple subpicture layers and opacity in Encore to try to simulate anti-aliasing, but be aware that strong, solid colors over solid-color backgrounds don’t make good design choices for DVD menus.
