I am taking really large and lengthy (6 hrs. and longer) AVI files and importing them as an asset. I am then trimming the the clip into a single 2 hr. length for DVD creation. It took over 8 hours to transcode the clip and kick out the first DVD. Ensuing copies took less than ten minutes. Is the long transcode time because the original clip is so long? I don’t understand why this would be, since only 2 hours of it are in the timeline. If so, how can I do this in a more reasonable length of time?

    Thanks,
    Luis

Encore always transcodes the entire clip, and not just what is in the timeline.

If you want to take less time transcoding, then do your editing in Premiere or your NLE of choice and export a shorter clip.
