I had imported an .avi file into an Encore timeline but I tried to edit the file in Premiere Pro 1.5. I inadvertantly tried to save the new file to same directory and same name as the original. The file was trashed by Premiere Pro and could not be recovered so I guessed the was lost but it still appears in Encore and I have since burnt it to a DVD but I still want to edit that clip.

How can I find out where the file is so I can edit it in Premiere Pro?

    many thanks

Encore will have transcoded the file to MPEG-2, and stores it in a folder in the same directory as your .NCOR project file. Within that folder, I believe it’s in the Sources folder. You can copy this file out and open it in Premiere, but beware- Premiere doesn’t always handle MPEG files very gracefully. If you have problems you may want to convert the file back to AVI using VirtualDub or another utility. (I wouldn’t normally recommend re-transcoding as you’re going to experience some amount of quality loss, but you may not have a choice here.)
