I am authoring a DVD featuring a movie in m2v format and some bonus materials in AVI format.

The m2v playback is fine but out of 4 AVI’s only one plays back correctly. This is the shortest one, app. 2 minutes, perhaps this is a factor of interest? The other three fly over the first 5 – 10 seconds extremely fast, and then freeze for ca. 5 seconds. After that, they play just fine (all this in Preview mode).

I haven’t a clue how to fix this.

Have you transcoded the AVI files yet? Don’t rely on Encore’s preview to give you a 100% accurate representation of what your disk will be like, especially if you haven’t transcoded everything yet.

Transcode your materials, burn a check disk, and see how it looks then.

I did it, but it comes out on DVD exactly as on the preview.

The AVIs…do they have stills or titles in them?

If so, did you create them in PPro?

Yes! They each have a title screen, and that’s the part where it goes wrong, the rest of the movie plays back fine.

Only one of the four avi’s plays back fine, including the title screen.

All titles were indeed created in premiere pro.

Try unchecking “Optimize Stills” in the Make Movie dialog (Settings button), then re-export the AVI. Probably best to rename the AVI before exporting, unless you feel adventurous. Then import the AVI in Encore.

Does that fix it for you?
