I am exporting a video from avid express 4.6 on a windows machine. I’ve tried a variety of settings on the export, Quicktime DV, sorenson, component, quicktime meridian compressed and am getting this video banding look to the video after I burn it to dvd. The settings I’m using to transcode are:

    Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video
    Quality: 5.0 (high quality)
    Frame Rate [fps]: 29.97
    Field Order: Lower
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 Pass
Minimum Bitrate [Mbps]: 5.0615 (medium quality)
Target Bitrate [Mbps]: 7.6173 (high quality)
Maximum Bitrate [Mbps]: 9.0000 (high quality)
    M Frames: 7
    N Frames: 14

as well as the default 7mB 2 pass setting. Why is this happening? am i missing a step. please HELP..

    Jason,

Have you tried setting the field order to “Upper First”? Most AVID systems I have worked on use that as the default.

    Have fun!

Try reducingthe M and N frames to bare miniumum. I think 2 and 8 is as low as you can go.

That seemed to lessen it, but it is still there. Is it because my bitrate is to high?
