    Dear All,

I am mid a project where I am rendering 16bit .rpf files out of 3DS max with various channels and am now trying to get the UV channel into After Effects to do some additional mapping in 2D. I am horrified to see that the 3D Channel Extract plug-in (which rocks) is only 8bpc!! I don’t know how I never noticed this before, but if anyone knows some alternate ways of pulling channels out of a .rpf please let me know ASAP!

For your info I am trying to do this because it offers the cleanest workflow for me. I always end up rendering .rpf sequences so that I can extract the camera move out of them into AE, so the idea of baking most of my render passes into channels is very appealing (such as Normal, UV, Z-depth, ObjectID, etc). But right now it seems the only viable way to do that is with .exr – except that I still end up rendering an additional .rpf to get the camera move… Not to mention .exr is the most ridiculously slow thing that I have ever seen!

    Thanks,
    – Spencer
