Editing AVCHD is such a pain
I have been using an NXCAM for a while now and love the high quality and very long recording time of AVCHD but it really is a nightmare to edit.
Adding any kind of effects or transitions take ages to render and even when it has rendered it is sluggish to move about the timeline and to playback.
I have just ordered a Black Magic Intensity Pro card so I can take the footage in via HDMI in a less compressed format. I have heard you get better results converting to a less compressed format before you edit also which will be interesting.
Has anybody here tried converting before editing or capturing via HDMI?
I’ll post my results when I get the card.

Adam,
I was where you are now.
I convert using the Cineform codec before I even think about editing.It makes editing as easy as uncompresssed.
1. Buy Cineform NeoScene. You can buy it from Videoguys for about $125.
2. Copy mts files to your computer.
3. Run Cineform Neoscene and it will batch convert your mts files to avi.
4. Use the AVI files in the editor.Option 2. This is the one that I currently use.
1. I bought Cineform Neoscene.
2. I copy mts files to my computer
3. I load all my mts files into the timeline in Vegas Pro, the editor I use.
4. Vegas Pro already knows that the Cineform codec is registered on my computer. I tell Vegas to render all the files into one long file and render in HD with the cineform codec.
5. After hours, I have one long avi file. I don’t like the small files created by the 2 Gig file size limit, that is why I concatenate them this way.
6. I put that avi file into the timeline and edit away.John Lenihan
