AVCHD FCP 7 Woes
Thru log and transfer I can take the video off the camera easily. Problem is that it shows up as square pixels and upper field in the properties. Dropping the video in a Circ 601, lower field video changes nothing. The video does not look very good. My project is 720×480 Anamorphic SD. Will FCP 7 capture this video cleanly or not? Is there a way to adjust properties to capture it in Lower field? …and downconvert (since it is actually sampling the video realtime)? Why isn’t there an AVCHD preset? Thanks

FCP will not down convert your footage during log and transfer. You will have to transcode the video in COmpressor.

OK. To keep from compressing the compression, what format should I use in compressor, keeping in mind that I will put this back on a timeline and then use compressor to compress it for DVD… Thanks for the response that is no where in any help file.

Is this your main footage or is it to go into an existing SD timeline. Why not edit in HD otherwise and then downconvert the final to SD.
There are lots of good ways to do this and a search of the forum will give you all the options. So rather than convert all footage, just consider converting the final so there aren’t “days of render”.

I would log & transfer in HD to ProRes.
edit the segments, then downconvert with compressor to the .m2v for
dvd making sure you have the resize quality set for highest.your dvd will look great. I’ve done many short projects this way.

no, HD timeline.
make it SD anamorphic when compressing.
final cut cannot resize with bicubic quality, the resizing in final cut is awful
and should never be used if quality matters.
