  • How to import XDCAM files and preserve dual channel audio?

    Greetings –

I have some footage that was shot on a Sony PMW-200, resulting in XDCAM .MXF files. I shot using two channels of audio — one for a shotgun mic, one for a lav. When I view the footage in the XDCAM transfer utility I can clearly hear both channels separated into discrete tracks. The problem is, no matter how I transcode the footage to ProRes for editing in FCP (v7.0.3), the result is a .mov file with two channels of mono audio, with both original stereo channels now mixed down to the same mono track in each channel. I’ve tried converting with XDCAM Transfer, Compressor, Wondershare, and Aunsoft TransMXF; only XDCAM Transfer recognizes that there are two channels to begin with, but even that program spits out mono audio on export. I’m stumped — how do I preserve both channels of audio upon transcoding?

    Thanks,

    Jeff
