    I have 4 Sony SXS cards for my EX3. 2 8 gig and 2 16 gig.
For the last few years the 16 gig cards always had 57 minutes 1080P HQ when reformated (erased).
Out of the blue one of my 16 gig SxS card now only shows 55 minutes 1080p HQ after formating (erased).

Any idea why? Is this card still safe to use?

Two possible reasons I know of
If you have upgraded your firmware it most likely changed how it reads and uses the memory. I’m sure this was it. Or
If you had pulled the card before the camera was finished writing to the card you could have damaged a portion on the memory

    Good Luck

Maybe you can erase it with a computer and then reformat in the camera?

Mr. Palmer’s 1st answer is correct. More recent versions of the XDCAM EX firmware will reduce the time on a 16G card from 57 to 55 min. A 32G SxS card goes from 116 min. to 112.
