Is there any way to shape a spotlight to another shape besides a circle? I want to create the effect of light spilling through a doorway into the hall and casting a character’s shadow on the opposite wall.

And I will be using a slight camera movement, so it does have to exist in 3D space.

I have tried creating a solid in front of the light and masking out (subtracting) the square shape, but it doesn’t seem to occlude the light as I would expect it to. And yes, this physical solid is casting shadows.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Try precomposing the shadow-casting layer and set its “Casts Shadows” property to “Only”.
