  • Will CS3 files work in CS4?

    Hi,

I want to expand my knowledge beyond the Classroom in a book for CS4.

I have just signed up to Lynda.com to try out their tutorials. I notice that you can sign up to download the project files they used in the tutorials. A lot of the tutorials are CS3 and I wondered if I could use them adequately in CS4?

    Kind regards,

[Olly Lawer] “A lot of the tutorials are CS3 and I wondered if I could use them adequately in CS4?”

Yes, AE project files are forward compatible (within reason — starting with CS5, there are some limitations. AE CS5 can open projects dating back to AE 6.0, and AE CS5.5 opens AEP projects dating back to AE 6.5).

They are not backwards compatible, though — so CS3 won’t be able to open a CS4 file.

For the most part, yes…depending on your level you may be learning the basic tools and concepts which all versions share.
