January 3, 2011 at 1:34 pmHey Jim I have that same setup except that I have the V mount. It works super with the ex3. Extra padding makes it more comfortable. Only complaint is that it won\’t fit in the expensive case that I already had. I have to take off the back part of the brace to get into the case for transit. Two thumb screws make it fairly easy to assemble. No run and gun with my case. Likewise if I am out in the open and it starts to rain I can\’t quickly put in the case usually I take a garbage bag with me just in case it rains.

January 4, 2011 at 3:27 amthanks ronnie, do you find it still slightly front heavy with this or does it feel comfortably balanced for long shooting times like our 300s

January 4, 2011 at 11:16 amIt depends on the weight of your battery. Using a 90 watt hour battery with a Sony wireless receiver in the back shoe it is fairly well balanced but not as comfortable as the 300 or the 320. Since I climb arourd a lot in getting to my shooting position I also put on the BU 60 regular battery just in case the battery becomes disloged or runs down. So far I have had ony one instance where the battery became dislodged or disconnected and the extra battery saved me in over 140 hours of use with the brace. I haven\’t found anything as comfortable as the 300 except for the 320. That camera is ever lighter than your 300.
Ronnie. Sent from my Iphone with difficulty.

January 10, 2011 at 11:59 pmWe have found that the EX3 mount from VF Gadgets is excellent. Check it out at https://www.vfgadgets.com/Heavy-Duty-Base-Plate-for-EX3-with-Back-and-Shoulder-Plate_p_127.html
Don’t know how it compares the one from WestsideAV…..

January 11, 2011 at 2:16 amit looks nice, seems that some of these mounts, the foam rubber pads, which are the types that you peel paper off and stick on…they dont retain the comfort over time as the pad is pretty thin.

January 11, 2011 at 5:05 amJim: From Olof you can get a thicker pad on the shoulder brace just by asking for it. I stuck the thicker pad on top of the old one and it lasted over 140 hours of shooting last summer. It was exposed to heat, cold and rain at times. I never had a problem with it at all.
Like I said before if you are trying to get your Ex-3 to be as comfortable over the 300 or the 320 you will be disappointed.
The shoulder braces really help and the one by Olof is as good as they come but nothing I have tried is as comfortable as your well balanced 300.

January 11, 2011 at 5:33 ami know it wont be same as the 300 but its alot lighter and less expensive. my main thing is that it wont still be front heavy and i can shoot for extended times on the shoulder and im hoping it wont feel awkward where youre having to keep shifting it until it works right.
im in no position to buy the 320 at 3600.00 more. besides, i want a lighter camera thats more versatile.
i was planning on renting an ex3 here. not sure olof would let me try out his unit for a weekend. this way i will know if its worth buying or not. i guess i will have to see if its worth a sale for him to let me try it.
hit or miss.
