  • DV in a XDCAM EX sequence – dropped frames

    Hello,

We are mixing 23.98 anamorphic DV with native XDCAM EX footage in a XDCAM 1080 23.98 VB sequence.

For whatever reason we are not able to play 2 layers of DV footage without dropping frames and/or having to render. Sometimes even a single layer already starts dropping frames. Is that normal?

    The system:
MacPro 8 -core, 6GB RAM, newest version of FCP (6.0.6), both the OS and QT are updated to the newest version.
Kona 3 on the latest driver. 2 RAIDS connected via ESATA.

    Thank you!

    Christoph

Yes I have dropped frames too when adding SD footage to an HD timeline. The only way to get smooth playback is to render SD footage first.

This happens both with AJA Kona HDe and Matrox MX02. It is a FCP problem.

I use M100 as well there you have to render footage before dropping in timeline, a dialog box comes up and asks how you want footage interpreted, lots of choices. It does not take long to render.

I prefer this approach because playback is always perfect.
