Accessing BVAV files from external drive
When out shooting, my cameraman didn’t have any room left on his SxS Pro card and therefore, he copied the BVAV files to his external hard drive which was connected to his PC Laptop. I am now trying to import them into FCP on my Mac Pro using XDCAM Transfer Utility without success. Can you help?

And he did this using ClipBrowser with CRC checking on of course?
Put the BPAV in a parent folder and see if that helps.
Is the hard drive formated FAT32 or NTFS?
“without success” is vague.
If you posted all the info you might have had an answer by know. No offense intended but if people want quick responses they really need to post ALL THE DETAILS otherwise the doctor may recommend amputation instead of an aspirin.

FAT32 drive, no problem.
NTFS should be readable but would require software to write to.
He’s only reading in this case. -

The cameraman named each folder BPAV1, BPAV2 and so on. After much frustration, I realized that I just need to create separate folders with each of these BPAV folders inside and named “BPAV”. I guess XDCAM Transfer only recognizes that specific folder name.Chris Cooke

Correct. If the name “BPAV” is altered in any way the workflow process will grind to an immediate halt. Always create a uniquely named parent folder for every BPAV folder.

On a tangent…
I did a test the other day with a clients editor. he used the XDCAM transfer utility to offload EX clips. What is the difference between the Transfer utility and Clip Browser. I told him he must use clip browser but he downloaded clips with out it.

On Windows ClipBrowser both copies and wraps to MXF (which Mac version does as well)
On Mac XDCAM Transfer add the wrap to MOV and some improved logging tools.[Ed Kukla] “I told him he must use clip browser but he downloaded clips with out it.”
I guess he refuses to wear seat belts when he drives too.
