Slot-load Wireless XDcam?
Posted by Bill Evelyn on April 18, 2008 at 6:47 pmFor all you lucky souls who’ve got the XDcam…we’re holding out for the 2/3″ chip…does this camera accept slot-loaded wireless receivers? I was looking over the Lectrosonics SR mentioned in one of the trade mags. Thanks…

April 18, 2008 at 7:08 pmAccording to the preliminary stuff, it does. But, I’m not at NAB so, unfortunately I can’t look at it myself. I was excited about this camera at first, but since finding out it will only do 1080i or 720p (not 1080p) I’m a little disappointed with it.

April 19, 2008 at 2:10 pmIt does have the slot wireless. I think all new full-size pro cameras do these days…

April 21, 2008 at 5:58 pmHey Bill…
I came across some info I found to be interesting: as you know the SR is the new dual wireless slot receiver from Lectrosonics; well, according to them, Sony cameras only accept single slot receivers, so Lectrosonics made a 5-pin (adapter cable?) in order to take advantage of the dual channels of the SR. I don’t know if the new PDW-700 is dual or single, though (hope it’s dual).

April 21, 2008 at 6:30 pmSony does have a dual channel slot receiver that was at NAB and I know someone whose been using it for a while now.
As for numbers of slots…. We have the first generation XDCAM HD and it uses a slot receiver that is attached to the battery mount since the camera doesn’t have a slot on-board. Maybe this can work with it.

April 21, 2008 at 7:36 pmIt seems everyone is coming out with a dual slot receiver (which is good). What Lectrosonics was saying, is that the Sony cameras that have a receiver slot built-in only have the ability to use a single channel receiver (there are not enough pins in the slot for the new dual channel receivers). However, I’m not sure about the new PDW-700.

April 21, 2008 at 8:08 pmI thought I heard that the PDW-700 will accept the dual channel slot receivers. I may be wrong and that would surely be Sony to do something like that. But I’m pretty sure that I heard that from the floor at NAB.

April 22, 2008 at 1:42 amActually, I just noticed Sony IS advertising their new dual wireless in-slot receiver for the PDW-700, and future camcorders. So, there you go.
