Does Sony offer a 12vdc portable deck that records 1080p?
We are researching an aerial shoot in June that involves the Cineflex gyro stablilzed helicopter mount with the Sony 1500 HD camera.
We have had a lot of experience with work flow using Panasonic gear at 720p but this Cineflex has the Sony 1500 camera.
We have the option to shoot 1080i or 1080p @ 30 or 60fps.
I am suggesting shooting at 1080p at 60fps and record to a portable deck inside the helicopter.Question-Does Sony now offer a portable 12vdc HDcam deck capable of recording 1080P? Will it also do a down convert to SD after the shoot?

Best choice is the SRW-1 recorder which is the VTR portion of the new F23 camera. It is also seperate-able and runs on battery. They also make a half rack recorder, the “280” which runs on batteries but might not be as common to find in rental.

Yes, the SRW/SRPC-1 is a portable HDCAM SR deck capable of recording 1920 x 1080 progressive at frame rates spanning from one frame per second to sixty frames per second at 422 or 444 color resolutions. Furthermore, the HDC-1500 and SRW/SRPC-1 combo can also take advantage of SR Motion, a feature which among other thinngs allows recording accelerating, decelerating or linear variable frame rate speed ramps effects. You simply select beginning and ending frame rates as well as the curve type and duration. The pre-selected speed ramp is recorded each time two buttons on the SRW-1 remote are pressed simultaneously. Best of all, you can review the ramp effecs on the field without any special equipment.
The SR Motion feature requires the optional SRBK-102 memory board. Straight 60P recording does not require the option. This NAB I worked a technology suite dedicated to 60P live production where we showed spectacular footage from the Rio Carnival shot on an HDC-1500/SRW-1 system.

Wargo pointed me towards the Sony HDW S280. It looks like another option. HD SDI I/O at 1080I or P.

Hi Juan,
Could you kindly explain to us how the 60p images were played back? I understand new SRW-1’s record 60p, but can’t playback at 60p, so how did you guys playback the 60p sequences at NAB? Also, was this 4:2:2 Y/Cb/Cr video or 4:4:4 RGB video? (IF RGB 4:4:4, was it linear or log?)
