  Simple Question – Photo, Text and Transparency

  Good Afternoon –

  I am new to indesign and am looking for a little direction on a simple question…

  I have one photo for a background (covers the entire page) and would like to place text on the photo so that the photo shows through the text. I’ve read and watched videos that explain that you have to create outline for the text and then drop the (same) photo into the newly created object. My questions is…is there a simpler way to do this or is this the only way?

  I appreciate any direction.

  I’m pretty sure I know what you mean, but can you tell me how you want the photo to show through the text? Can you attach an example?

  Hi, I’m not sure if you can make clipping masks in InDesign. But in any case, i’d say the technique you described is the simplest by far.
  Making outlines of text is straightforward – on Windows, you just select the text box, press Ctrl + O. Then simply go File > Place and drop your image in. Shout if you get stuck.
