  exchange vector with the same name file

  Is it possible to change vector file same as images?
  I have some icon that I will maybe change in a near future but I want to start putting them in place and change colour.
  Example I have icon1.ai I put in the document as a vector change the colour in Indesign and I decide to replace it with another file that I have named icon1.ai and it will take al placement and attribute all over my document.

  is it something possible or I have to put it as .png

  Yes, if you place it as an image, you can update it like any other image.

  But if you copy in Illustrator and paste in InDesign, it becomes an InDesign path object instead.
