  Organizing book of cartoons

  Hi all,

  I’m new to InDesign, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to do the following.
  I’m setting up a book of cartoons, (all images, no text). Some of the cartoons need to be grouped together for a storyline, others can be put anywhere. What I’d like to do is set it up so that some pages are locked and that in other situations I can add a cartoon to a page, and all the subsequent cartoons will ‘shift’ throughout the book to make space for the new cartoon, the way text does. Is this possible?
  The way it is now, if I want to put in a new cartoon on page 6, I have to re-arrange the next 122 pages by hand… I’m sure there’s a better way?

  Here’s a suggestion. Make a new InDy document that is the size of one cartoon. Now you make each cartoon its own page in this document.

  In the master “book” document, you then place pages from the cartoon document.

  When a new cartoon needs inserted, do it in the cartoon document (as a new page, in its proper placement between the other cartoons). When you open up the master “book” document, refresh the links. The last cartoon will be missing on the last page, but you can now just add that one in there.
