  Merge columns, but not the rows

  I’m using Indesign CS4.

  I’m importing an excel spreadsheet into indesign to create tables.

  The spread sheet uses about 20 columns and 40 rows. The first 4 columns have information that need to be combined into one column. How can I merge multiple columns without merging the rows? Can I do in InDesign? If not, how do I do it in excel 2004?

  I know that it can be done in Excel. However, I do not know the exact process (don’t have Excel in front of me here).

  …something like…
  highlight the cells you want to merge….somewhere in Excel “merge cells”. I would do a help command and search “merge cells”
