  Importing styles from Word

  My original text is in a Word doc. The character styles in Word (e.g. Times New Roman/regular 12) are the same as I am using in InDesign. Yet when I copy and paste the text into InDesign, there is no correlation. Is there a way to achieve this import of text without changing existing character styles?
