CS3 Index Anomaly
Creating an index for a high school yearbook that I advise. Remember having this problem in the past (last year?), but don’t remember the solution. I did search both the web and these forums, but alas….
Using Snow Leopard with CS3 (5.0.4).
Have a list of names (class pages). Have the following:
Jenna Grooms
Donald Grove
Nancy Ha
Paige Hadler
Tyler Hall
Jason Hammond
Gregory HarrelsonSelected all names in a story.
Pressed Shift Option Command Right Bracket
The resulting index lists them in the following order:
Hadler, Paige
Hall, Tyler
Hammond, Jason
Ha, Nancy
Harrelson, Gregory…This is true throughout. Looking at another set of names in the index palette:
Valari Grant
Justin Gravlee
Anthony Green
Christianna Green
Evangelene Green
Johnna GreenNavania Green
Richard Green
Shakeila Greene
Erik Gregg
Marikah GreggI end up with the following…
…Green, Christianna
Greene, Shakeila
Green, EvangeleneUpon closer inspection, one recognizes that InDesign is indexing oblivious of the fact that there is a comma and the first name. In the Ha case, InDesign perceives the name as “han…” instead of Ha, N…. In the case of Shakeila Greene, InDesign sees “Greenes…” (or Greene, Shakeila) which would logically precede “Greenev….” (or Green, Evangelene).
So, obviously, this is a bug.
How do I squish it?
Thanks in advance….
