  • Layer partially disappearing in Full Quality View

Posted by Adam Carroll on December 2, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Here is an image so you know what I’m talking about: https://i40.tinypic.com/4smt09.jpg

A layer is partially disappearing only when I am in full quality view and, in turn, when I render the clip. It is a single JPG (although a big one – approx. 15000 x 4000px) and there are no other layers directly in front or behind.

I’ve tried with Open GL enabled and disabled, and also copying my layers in to a new composition with no change

I can’t think of what else I can try. Any help is very much appreciated. And let me know if you need more info.

    Composition Settings:
    HDTV 1080 24
    1920×1080
    24fps

    Computer Specs:
    Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
    2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    8GB 1066 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120

Is it a 3D or 2D layer? Are you using a camera in the scene?

It’s only work if you’d rather be doing something else…

It is a 3D layer. There is a camera parented to a null object

Just wondered if the layer is maybe clipping through the camera. Although that wouldn’t explain the discrepancy between full and half res previews, necessarily.

That would make sense but the graphic and the camera are not angled at all and the graphic layer is at z: 0 and the camera is at about z: -200

    Hi guys, happy new year.

Where you able to figure this out?

I ran into the same issue today, sort of.
All the elements in one of my comps are disappearing as soon as I go full res. If I work on half then I can see them but with artifacts. I have no idea what’s going on, but my guess is the video card. All I’m using is an Illustrator CS5 file a 4 color gradient BG and an Optical Flares layer on top, tracking one light. I have attached a screen shot of my comp.

    All the best,

    D.

I ended up just making another graphic for the section that was disappearing. Make sure your graphic isn’t overlapping with the background in z-space and that you’ve got some distance between your camera and your graphics. I’ve found that the order of your layers on the timeline can cause some weird stuff to happen too. Other than that, I’m not sure what you can do.

    Hey Adam, thanks.

    I found this thread:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/783940?decorator=print&displayFullThread=true

It has some tips on how to deal with this, as apparently it’s been documented before. I found that trying a mix of several things (turning off multiprocessing, turning continuous rasterization on my nested comp and collapse transformation off on the main one worked for me, at least for the time being.

Hope it will work for you too.

    Best,

    D.
