  Text Variables on Master Pages—text frame is locked

  I’m using text variables to keep the file’s current name on the pages in my layout. I set up the text box with the variables on my Master Page. Later, however, when I go back to edit the box, it is locked or I can’t click on it on the Master Page. I am using InDesign CS3 and I want to edit the text box on the Master page in order to alter its size and the tint of the text.

  Is it on a locked layer?

  Is your master page based on another (eg: master page B Based on Master Page A)

  Can you shift Ctrl click on the box to unlock/release it?

  I tried inserting a variable of filename and saved the document and reopened, and did not have a problem editing it in CS3 PC.
