  Digging my own grave?

  Hey everyone.

  I’ve got a simple question wich probably doesnt have an easy anwere but here goes. I’ve promised i friend to make a simple 10 sek. movie for him to use in TV. Im working in Adobe AE and are pretty much finished. 720*576 Pal D1/DV Widescreen 25fps.

  Now when I got the tech spec I got the shivers.
  I heard I could do the whole thing in AE but now I don’t know.

  This is from the tech spec:
  Alignment reference
  Sony ZRP

  Signal timing
  625/50 (PAL)

  Output levels and timing
  Aligned Sony DVW500P (or equivalent) should produce a CCIR 656 270Mbit/s signal which when converted to analogue produces PAL signal conforming to EBU specification.

  Aspect ratio
  16:9FHA or 4:3

  Audio reference level
  -18dB relative to max count (Headroom 18dB)

  Audio alignment reference
  Sony CR8 1BPS

  Peak audio level
  Reference +8dB

  Audio pre-emphasis
  None

  Black Level
  When a pixel is black, the specified voltage transmitted or recorded is Zero (0) Volts. Any lower than this level is illegal

  Peak White
  When the pixel is at maximum brightness (luminance) the voltage is +0.7 Volts (700mV)

  And there’s alot about timecode wich is to much to write here.
  Can I do this with AE and if not can I get a software wich does the job?

  AE was made for stuff like this. If you want to be safe, drop on an Adjustment Layer and a dose of Levels with RGB output settings to between 16-235.

  Alright, Levels on the Adjustment Layer to tune colours?

  Any good hint on what formet AE can “make movie” to match this specs, if even possible? Or do I have to use yet another program to make the final film?

  I would take this to mean that they want an adjustment layer which has the Broadcast Colors filter applied to it. It has presets for both NTSC and PAL as I remember, so you should be good to go. You’ll find it in the Effects/Color Correction pulldown.

  How do you intend to deliver this?

  The part of the spec you’ve included here is for Digibeta delivery. If you intend to deliver on tape, you can bring this spec with you to a post house for layoff.

  If you are delivering a file, you’ll need file-based specs. You will hopefully get a complete delivery spec, including container format, resolution, frame rate, video codec, video bit rate, audio codec, number of audio channels, and audio depth/sample rate/bit rate. There may be additional requirements on slate, run time, time code, head and tail, audio channel designation, etc.

  They want it on tape or on file. Preferable on file wich suites me.
  They use Adtoox for UL files and they seem to have webbased programs to check formats, quality and such.
  I’ll jump into that just about now.. Thanks for your input so far. I might get back to you.
