I have a client which is not computer savvy and I want to setup for him the simplest and cost effective way to playback Quicktimes of all sorts on his SDI reference monitor from his Retina macbook Pro. So I thought of BlackMagic’s UltraStudio Monitor which will work. So hardware part is checked. Software is not so simple.

The best would be Adobe Premiere since it can ingest anything natively but cost wise it’s not the best choice. BMD free software Media Express won’t play 44.1 khz audio and is more picky about the source. DaVinci Resolve is free but a little more complicated to import and playback stuff.

So, do you know an almost free software that is fast and simple to use and will work with BMD UltraStudio Monitor? Something like VLC or Quicktime Player would be great. Double click on the file and click play.

You don’t need to import files into resolve to play. You can just play from the media browser in the media page without importing. If he can browse folders he can play video.
